Meet Roy Toft
Roy Toft, a renowned professional wildlife photographer and biologist, captures images that not only reflect the essence of animal life but also address environmental changes affecting our natural world. He authored "Wild Ramona" and co-authored "Osa, Where the Rainforests Meet the Sea" with ecologist Trond Larson.
Committed to preserving the wild for future generations, Roy's photography contributes to global conservation initiatives. As a founding fellow of the International League of Conservation Photographers (ILCP), he promotes conservation through his work.
Roy's work has been showcased in prestigious publications like National Geographic, Audubon, and Discover. He has achieved top accolades in renowned competitions such as the Wildlife Photographer of the Year hosted by the London Natural History Museum, Nature’s Best, and BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year. His compelling wildlife images are accessible worldwide through the National Geographic Image Collection and Getty Images.
Passionate about teaching and photography, Roy conducts photography classes, tours, and workshops in various destinations, organizing expeditions through Toft Photo Safaris in locations like Costa Rica, Brazil, Botswana, Chile, and more. His popular Rainforests of Costa Rica workshop was featured on the Fine Living Network's Fantasy Camp show.
Roy lives on a 28-acre estate in Ramona, situated in the mountainous region of north county San Diego, California, where he indulges in outdoor activities like hiking and mountain biking. When not leading photography expeditions or workshops, he finds solace in tending to his expansive garden inspired by South African flora, which includes a diverse array of aloes and exotic plants.
